CHRIST CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW
Text: Matthew 5:17–20

Big Idea of the Message: Jesus didn’t come to destroy God’s work in the Old Testament but to fulfill what it had been always pointing toward: a pure righteousness through Jesus Christ.
Application Point: Because we’ve been declared right with God through Jesus’s work, we should strive to live obedient, pure lives.

Before leaving earth, Jesus commands his followers to make disciples of all nations.
Jesus rose again, his physical body made alive again. Although Thomas had his doubts about the resurrection, Jesus presented him with the evidence he needed.
All of Scripture points to Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection.
Though innocent, Jesus was crucified to fulfill God’s promise of redemption.
At the Passover meal, Jesus instituted the practice of Communion—a vital ritual that reminds us of the atonement.
In this passage, Jesus explains that following him involves being willing to embrace enormous sacrifices.
Jesus displayed his power to heal spiritually by healing physically.
As Jesus explains to Nicodemus, it is only through being recreated by the Spirit (made possible by Jesus’s ministry) that one can be made right before God.
Jesus’s baptism and temptation represent his identification with humanity’s failures and sin, as well as his anointing and preparation to preach the gospel.
In this text, Paul explains that the body of Christ is filled with people who are gifted in many different ways; we should all seek to be unified with one another, journeying together in love.
